  • Composites

Composites Wide range of toughened, structural adhesives for bonding composite materials. Download Brochure Further reading Composites are used in many different markets including Automotive, Aerospace, Wind Energy, Sports Equipment, Medical – assistive devices, transport industry, the list goes on… A key feature shared by these industries is the requirement for high performance, toughened, impact resistant adhesives. Composites cannot be welded; they often require joining to dissimilar material types. Using traditional fasteners adds to component weight and can interfere with the integrity of the composite (as drilling may be required). By using an adhesive instead, you can create a 100% seal, keep components lightweight and reduce rattling or vibration loosening. Permabond offers a vast array of adhesives suitable for bonding carbon fibre, GRP, FRP, laminate and various other blends (including those containing polypropylene!). They not only bond composites but will also adhere to metals, stone, concrete, glass, rubber and many other materials.

  • Transport

Transport Structural adhesives (fire retardant products also available) for bonding a wide variety of materials found in the transport industry. Download Brochure Further reading Permabond adhesive materials are used for buses, trains and for bonding railway tracks. Typical applications include: Bonding laminates and composite materials for interiors Adhesives allow for the joining of dissimilar materials e.g. composite material to metal without the need to drill or use mechanical fastenings. This helps to reduce component weight, improve the appearance of the parts, maintain structural integrity (as no holes drilled), also provides better stress distribution without concentrating stress into a small area around a drilled hole). As well as better aesthetic appearance, using adhesives helps the acoustic properties of the joint panels by helping absorb vibration and adhesive will not rattle unlike a mechanical fastening. Adhesives for bonding laminates generally require high structural strength, high peel strength, good impact and vibration resistance. Permabond’s range of structural acrylic adhesives and toughened epoxies are ideal for these applications. Fire retardant grades are also available. Bonding rubber bellows / concertinas between carriages Trains and bendy buses have a rubbery concertina between carriages which can be hard to bond with conventional adhesives due to low adhesion strength on the rubber blend. Permabond has special adhesives which are ideal for bonding EPDM rubber and other rubber compounds containing polyolefins which can offer excellent adhesion and good resistance to harsh environmental conditions. Watch this video sent to us by a customer in Russia that shows the strength just a tiny drop of Permabond cyanoacrylate has! Chassis, rolling stock and mechanical applications Adhesives are used for a variety of applications such as drive shaft bonding, braking systems, dampeners, gearboxes, heating and pipework systems. Railway track bonding Permabond adhesives have been tested and approved by several international railway construction firms. Product is approved for “Fishplate” bonding between railway tracks. Material has to be toughened, able to withstand harsh environmental extremes and insulate the joint. For further help and product recommendations, please contact Permabond’s technical team.

  • MRO

Easy to use – single part, helps lubricate joints for easy assembly and a 100% seal against liquids and gasses. Excellent chemical resistance. Anaerobic gasketmakers – for creating form-in-place (FIP) gaskets – no need to use a pre-cut paper / cork / rubber gasket, one “size” fits all – make whatever shaped gasket you require. Will not “bed in” or need any adjustment after curing, will not degrade over time, no need to service or replace at regular intervals unlike conventional gaskets which can deteriorate. Ideal for use in gearbox reconditioning and other automotive repairs and parts remanufacturing. Anaerobic retainers / retaining sealants – these are high strength, single component adhesives ideal for repairing spun bearings, sealing/ replacing brake cylinder linings, bonding collars to shafts and other metal to metal concentric joints. The adhesive can take up wide tolerances so can reduce machining time as interference fits are no longer required and tolerances can be relaxed whilst part performance is improved with better stress distribution and component protection. Other MRO jobs can involve repairing trim, tamper-proofing and threadlocking plastic parts, these can be done quickly and effectively with Permabond cyanoacrylate adhesive.

  • Filters

Filters Potting materials for filter end caps and sealing filter seams. Download Brochure Further reading Permabond supplies many filter customers including manufacturers of oil filters, air filters, water filters, medical filters, waste filters and also not forgetting food and drink filters. Permabond specialises in tailoring specific adhesives for their applications which can include: Potting filter end caps Many customers require bespoke adhesives for this application which involves flooding the end cap with adhesive which the filter pleats sit in. Material must have sufficient flow properties to flow around the pleats to hold them firmly in place once cured, but it is essential the adhesive doesn’t wick up the filter medium and impair the filter function. The adhesive must be compatible with the fluids going through the filter too. Permabond’s development team have a lot of experience in this field and can customise products to have specific flow characteristics to suit the application. Sealing filter crimps Permabond products are used worldwide in the production of automotive oil filters. The rolled seam of the filter is sealed with Permabond anaerobic sealant to provide a leak-free, durable seal. Gaskets can be bonded to filters with cyanoacrylate adhesive which works particularly well on rubber. Bonding mesh / sieve to frames Often customers are seeking food grade adhesives for these applications for screens and filters for foodstuffs. Permabond offers a variety of epoxies with FDA and EU food grade compliance. We can also develop bespoke materials to meet these requirements and fit with the specifications of the customer.
